Le Repas des Pauvres 1877 by Alphonse Legros 1837-1911

Alphonse Legros was a French painter who was a connection between French and British avant-garde artists. He was influenced by Gustave courbet in this painting. “Le Repas des Pauvres” (the meal of the poor) was painted in the realist way and took attention to poor people.

Water-Lilies after 1916 by Claude Monet 1840-1926

Claude Monet built a water garden in his home and started use there as a studio and there were water lilies on the pond’s surface and this scene became his principal motif of the paintings. He abstracted the lilies and used the changing light effect.

Harvest: Le Pouldu 1890 by Paul Gauguin 1848-1903

Paul Gauguin left the impressionist style and got influenced by folk and primitive art to paint this harvesting scene. He used deformed perspective and also simplified the colors.

Laszlo Moholy Nagy painted this with geometrical forms in an ordered way. It is an example of constructivism. One year later that it was painted he started to teach a course in Bauhaus in Weimar.

Composition 1918 by Bart van der Leck 1876-1958

Van der Leck painted this after meeting Piet Mondrian as an abstract composition. Than he became one of the founders of De Stijl and had geometrical and abstract art ideas.

Metamorphosis of Narcissus 1937 by Salvador Dal? 1904-1989

Salvador Dali’s this painting is a representation of the Greek myth of Narcissus. It is the first Surrealist painting that offers consistent interpretation. He suggested that as a method of irrational knowledge.
